S.H.O.E.S. - Students Honoring Others Everyday Struggles

EKU Housing & Residence Life presents S.H.O.E.S. This event is designed to raise awareness about struggles students face every day with a concentration on mental health.

When? April 13, 2021 / 10AM - 3PM

Where? Lower Powell Plaza

What? Shoes collected from the campus community will be placed in a designated location. Each set of shoes will be paired with a story highlighting the impact of mental health. Students and staff will be invited to read the stories (submitted anonymously) to learn about the strength, courage and struggles felt by members of the campus community. Resources from the Counseling Center will be available for pick up.

Shoe Collection

Shoe collection is happening now in the lobby of the Whitlock Building and in each of the Residence Halls (collection boxes are located near building entrances and in the Grand Campus Clubhouse)! COVID-19 protocols are being enforced.  Everyone is encouraged to donate shoes in any condition. Shoes in excellent condition will be donated to the community of Richmond following the event.

Story Submission

Students, faculty and staff members are invited to submit personal stories that have impacted their mental health. All story submissions are completely anonymous. Stories can highlight growth, hope, struggle and loss. Submit a story HERE.

This concept was originally developed and implemented by housing staff at East Carolina University and is being modified to meet the needs of our campus community.
