Room Changes and Room Swaps


Room Change Request

A room change is a request to be moved from your current space to an unoccupied.

Students interested in asking for a room change will need to complete the Room Change Request Form between the dates of January 29-February 8. The form will allow you to indicate the building, room style, and/or the roommate you prefer to live with. Students who wish to request a specific roommate, will need to include the name and EKU ID number of the specific student. Please keep in mind requests will be reviewed based on the order in which they are received and are not guaranteed. While we wish to grant every room change, spaces are limited and requests can only be granted if a space is available in the requested building or room type. 

The form will go live on January 29 at 8:00 AM.

Submission of this request form is only a request for a room change and does not guarantee a change will be made and authorizes Housing & Residence Life to alter your assignment based on your indicated preferences. EKU Housing will make every effort to accommodate a request if space allows.

Notification of a room change will be sent in an email to the student’s EKU email address beginning January 30, so those who have submitted a form should regularly check their email. If your room change has been made and you will have 24 hours to make your room change. Please do not move until you are emailed the specifics of your new assignment.

If you wish to decline an approved room change after you receive an email notification, you must reply to the email within 24 hours stating your desire to remain in your original room assignment. After 24 hours, it may not be possible to cancel the room change.


Room Swap

A room swap involves 2 or more students agreeing to switch rooms. Students who wish to swap rooms with another student may contact the Residence Hall Coordinator in the hall the swap is going to occur during the RHC’s office hours. All students involved in the swap must meet with the RHC. Room swaps begin on January 30. The Room Change Request form does not apply to Room Swaps. 


What if I don't currently have a Roommate?

Students who do not currently have a roommate should expect a new roommate at some point during the room change process. Also, this is a reminder, the other half of the room should remain ready to receive a roommate at all times even after the room change period concludes. This means that 1 bed, 1 desk, 1 dresser, and 1 closet should remain empty and free of belongings.
