Room Changes

Housing & Residence Life hopes your semester is going well! We are continually  assessing ways to increase our traditional services for residential students in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the record numbers of virus cases in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, visitation will not be expanded for the remainder of the semester.  However, we will permit students to make a room swap or change before starting the Spring semester. 

A room swap is a 1 to 1 switch with another student on campus. A room change is a request to be moved from a current location to a currently unoccupied space.

Students awarded a room change or room swap should report back to campus between January 13 and 15 to complete their room change/swap.Please do not plan to move until you are emailed your new assignment. If granted a room change/swap, students will see their bill adjusted to reflect costs of new room assignment.

Students living in halls that allow roommates should expect to receive a new roommate before the spring term begins. The other half of the room should remain ready to receive a roommate at any time, even after the room change period concludes.It means that one bed, one desk, one dresser, and one closet should remain empty and free of belongings. Halls that allow roommates are Telford, Burnam suites, Martin, North, and the double room suites in South Hall.

Students who request a room swap or change with a specific roommate, mustinclude the name and EKU ID number of the specific student. It is important to have this information available before beginning the form.


  1. The Room Change Request Form will be available on the Housing website from November 2nd at 9:00 a.m. and close November 25th at noon.
  2. Students wishing to swap places or room change with a specific roommate must include the name and ID number of that student on the form.
  3. Students will be notified through their EKU email address if a room change or room swap has been approved.
  4. Suppose a student wishes to decline an approved room change after receiving an email notification. In that case, the student must reply to the email within 24 hours, stating their desire to remain in their original room assignment. After 24 hours, it may not be possible to cancel the room change. 

The form submission is a request for a room change or room swap and does not guarantee a change will be made. Submission of the request form authorizes Housing & Residence Life to alter your current assignment based on your indicated preferences. EKU Housing & Residence Life will make every effort to accommodate a request if space allows.
